Executive Summary
Use this checklist to assess whether your site, species plan, and investment timeline are ready for commercial RAS development.
Site & Infrastructure
- Land tenure and zoning confirmed for aquaculture/industrial use
- Power capacity assessed for pumps, chillers, and oxygen supply
- Water source identified (well, municipal, desalination) with quality baseline
- Waste discharge pathway understood with local regulations
Production Plan
- Target species and market validated
- Planned capacity (annual tonnage or biomass) defined
- Growth model and feed conversion assumptions documented
- Nursery vs. grow-out strategy decided
Technical Readiness
- Climate data collected (temperature, humidity, evaporation)
- Preliminary RAS loop concept aligned with species requirements
- Biosecurity requirements defined (especially for shrimp/hatchery)
- Redundancy expectations set for oxygen and critical pumps
Commercial & Delivery
- CAPEX and OPEX budget range established
- New build vs. retrofit decision made
- Local construction partner identified
- Target commissioning timeline realistic for permit and build cycles
Vendor Evaluation
- Request integrated system scope, not equipment lists only
- Confirm commissioning and training inclusion
- Review reference projects in similar climate/species
